This past summer, the Deloitte-National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) Cybersecurity Study was conducted. State chief information security officers (CISOs) from 48 states, and two U.S. territories, participated in the survey.
The findings concluded that less than a quarter (24%) of CISOs are very confident in the ability of their state to guard against external cyber threats.
According to the study:
• Inadequate availability of cyber security professionals ranked among the top five barriers to addressing cyber security.
• State officials value a security agenda: 92% of respondents to a parallel survey targeting a limited cross-section of state business and elected officials ranked cyber security as “most important” or “very important.”
• 86% of CISOs reported that insufficient funding posed the most significant barrier to addressing cyber security issues at the state level.
