Despite the impact of the pandemic on the State Capitol itself, the California legislature had a last minute “flurry” of bills that were sent to the Governor. There are hundreds of new pieces of legislation, including as always items that affect public workplaces in areas of workers’ compensation, leaves, accommodations, harassment standards, and other requirements for employers navigating the pandemic in the year to come. Some were enacted as emergency legislation and are already effective, others will be effective 1-1-2021.
We will update you on what Governor Newsom signed, what he vetoed, and what we anticipate the impact will be on public employers.. We will focus in depth on several very significant bills – both COVID 19 and non-COVID related – that make major changes to the way your entities manage employment law, labor relations, and education law..
We will provide a comprehensive description of each bill affecting the public sector workplace, highlight where new policies or procedures are imperative, and explain the impact on your workplace as you navigate both the ongoing pandemic and the broader employment law compliance requirements.
